I grew up as a dancer. In high school, I was on the dance company and we had a photographer who did photo shoots of us each year. He would take us to weird places around the city or out in nature like the Salt Flats and take photos of us dancing. I thought it was so cool! I had big dreams with dance; I wanted to go to New York and be on a big famous dance company. But I couldn’t keep photography out of my head. When I went to college, I decided to enroll in a photography class and loved it. I still have a huge passion for dance, but have also developed one for photography as well.
Oh dear, let me see. I have a Contax 645, a Nikon F100, a Nikon FA, a Mamiya RB, a Yashica, a Holga, a Diana, a Land Camera 104 and a Brownie. I usually have at least the strapped around my neck. I don’t feel like I can choose just one as my favorite. They all do such different things and I love them all for the uniqueness they bring. My go-to cameras are my Contax, F100 and Holga.
If you could take one photo of anyone or anything, who or what would it be?
I love photographing people. I couldn’t name one specific shot. I love seeing the love and connections of people either by themselves or with loved ones.
I was able to photograph the birth of my nephew. It was the most amazing experience of my life to witness such an intimate part of someone’s life. Birth is such a miracle.
My favorite locale is nature. Just being outside when the sun is about to go down and you have that magical light, that’s my favorite.
I love where I live because of the diversity of Utah. I can go downtown or in the mountains or drive a few hours and be in red rocks. We have so many varied landscapes that each shoot I do can be completely different from the others.
I love food and I love trying all different kinds. I think my favorite restaurant is The Copper Onion. You can never go wrong there.
Ha, the last book I read was Wild and the last movie I saw was Wild.
Don’t take things so seriously.
